Graspop Metal Meeting

Dessel (Belgium)

(Canon PowerShot G7 X Mark II)

Thursday at midday, with perfect weather, it all kicked off again: Graspop 2025 opened its gates, and I headed straight to the first band on the South Stage. With Municipal Waste from Richmond, things got serious right away. No slow warm‑up, no gradual build - no, straight to full throttle from the very first second.
The mix of crossover, thrash, and punk was pure fun. With a neon‑green banner glowing behind them, the guys around frontman Tony Foresta fired one broadside after another into the crowd. Supported by Ryan Waste on guitar, Philip Hall on bass, and Dave Witte on drums, the good vibes quickly spilled from the stage into the audience. The set was dominated by their second‑to‑last albums "Slime And Punishment" and "Electrified Brain". I found it surprising that their current 2024 album "Tango And Thrash" was completely left out, even though it consists of revamped songs from their early days.
It wasn’t overly crowded in front of the stage yet, but that didn’t matter. Soon the first people started crowd‑surfing, and the rest of the audience joined in immediately whenever the constantly posing guys on stage encouraged them. The atmosphere both in front of and on the Main Stage was excellent, and time flew by.
