Today was a premiere for me: Grafschafter Metalfest took place for the third time on March 14th, 2026, and opening the lineup was the metalcore band A Place To Fall from Lingen. Since their formation in 2013, the guys have gone through quite a few stylistic and lineup changes. By now, they’ve firmly settled into metalcore and released two albums (“Resilience” from 2022 and “Lost Myself” from their early days in 2016).
The stage setup looked genuinely professional, complete with an impressive light show. Then the first wave of heavy riffs hit, and you were immediately drawn in. Surprisingly, they didn’t play much from their two released albums. The set began with standalone songs not featured on either record, and only the final two tracks came from “Resilience.” Frontman Marcel Völker repeatedly knelt on the front monitors, performing with his eyes closed, while his bandmates bassist André Mathis as well as guitarists Oliver Aepken and Malte Hornung swirled around him. On two songs, Aepken joined Völker on vocals for a second vocal line. Only drummer Johannes Röttker remained more in the background. Unfortunately, the set was quite short but that’s to be expected from an opener. It was varied, engaging, and definitely left you wanting more. A great way to start the afternoon. The only downside was that the crowd in front of the stage was still very small, which the band really didn’t deserve. If these guys ever play near you, you should absolutely check them out.
