01.08.2013 Rotten Souls

Wacken Open Air XXIV

Wacken (Germany)

(Pentax K-5 with Sigma AF 70-200mm 2.8 EX DC APO HSM II)

The second day first started with the Metal Battles as the main stages were used earliest in the afternoon. In the not very crowded tent the Central American winner Rotten Souls from Costa Rica led off.
With properly made-up faces the band members entered the stage and got it decently going. The style was discribed with melodic death metal having influences of trash, death, gothic and progressive metal within. Overall a combination that worked quite well. The songs in epic length from their sole album "And So Do We... At The Gates" was able to fascinate the audience and actually you wanted to hear more after only three songs but unfortunately due to the large number of bands each has only a very limited time slot available. I think that Rotten Souls can develop quite well in their genre and that there will be more to come in the future of them.

Setlist:

  • Intro
  • The Awakening
  • Dies Non Et Chronos Creare Malificentum
  • Dante's Inferno
