02.08.2013 Corvus Corax Meets Wadokyo

Wacken Open Air XXIV

Wacken (Germany)

(Pentax K-5 with Sigma AF 70-200mm 2.8 EX DC APO HSM II)

Already last year this unusual cooperation was made and on this year's Wacken it should be continued. When the concert started first the Düsseldorf Taiko drummers of Wadokyo entered the stage and that was already quite impressive what they presented. Shortly after the guys of the eastern German mid-age band Corvus Corax entered also the stage to the pipe sounds of Venestus Oleriaticus, Pan Peter, Vit and front men and singer Castus Rabensang. Supported they were by the percussionists Hatz, Harman der Drescher and Steve.
With partly unusual looking costumes and instruments very fast middle-age atmosphere is rising and in front of the stage moods are rising minute by minute. Very funny was the cover version of Amon Amarth "Twillight Of The Thundergods". Metal never sounded that mid-eval.
I found the combination of minstrels and Japanese drummers very unusual but it worked quite well. The anyhow rousing music of Corvus Corax harmonized perfectly with the pressure full drum sounds of Wadokyo. I did not expect that as I knew both bands not beforehand. But after approximately one hour I went towards the next stage being in quite a good mood.
