Wacken Open Air XXV

Wacken (Germany)

(Pentax K-5 with Sigma AF 70-200mm 2.8 EX DC APO HSM II)

The last day at Wacken should be begun in front of the Party Stage watching the American groove metal old hands Prong. May it be due to the fact that they had to be the opener on that stage or that Arch Enemy with their new front woman were rocking the Black Metal Stage in parallel, there were only very few persons standing in front of the stage. Additionally the sound was not very good because again and again Arch Enemy was drowning what was happening here.
Besides that Prong was playing a very good show. Of the founders of the band in mid 80ies only guitarist and singer Tommy Victor was left over. He was supported on the one hand by bassist Jason Christopher and on the other hand by drummer Art Cruz. They played a nice cross section of their albums pushing really hard already with their opener of the 2012 released album “Carved Into Stone” “Eternal Heat”. That directly made the audience in front of the stage start moving. Also the following songs could seamlessly continue to do so. With “Another Worldly Device” of the album “Cleansing” after approximately three quarters the entertaining gig was finished.
I did not know the band beforehand but starting the day with them was a lot of fun and quite promising. Let’s see how it will continue.
