On the evening of 23.05.2010 the ice hockey wc had its culmination. In front of a sold out house Russia and Czech Republic were facing of whereof the last were not impressed by the current Russian results in this championship.
Already after only a few seconds the Czech Republic took over the lead by 1:0 what shocked the Russians only for a short period of time. So they started their offense machinery and drove one attack after the other towards the Czech goal. But Vokoun was in a very good mood this evening and saved everything what came towards him. Only at the end of the first period the Russians already cheered after the puck crossed the line but the video judge decided on no goal.
Afterwards the Russians even increased their pressure after the beginning of the second period but had to accept the 2:0 of the Czech Republic. Additionally the Russians weakened themselves when at the beginning of the third period Emelin got a game misconduct after a knee check. The attempts of attacking the Czech goal were not reduced but the 2:1 was scored only 30 seconds in front of the end of the game and so too late.
The Russians were across the whole championship the best team but the Czech showed that also this supremacy is not invincable and so they are the well earned new world champion.
