Wacken Open Air XXV

Wacken (Germany)

(Pentax K-5 with Sigma AF 70-200mm 2.8 EX DC APO HSM II)

The big headliner of the first evening was formed by Accept. The band that had a lot of personal changes and was also separated and reunited several times is never the less existing already since the early 70s. To that time with Udo Dirkschneider as singer (having today big success with U.D.O.) but in the current formation not worse compared to that time.
Since 2009 Mark Tornillo is the man on the microphone and after the usual sounds of “Heidi Heido Heida” you got directly run over by the first release of their new album “Blind Rage” which was called “Stampede”. Unfortunately the sound was not really perfect but that improved a lot during their gig. With technically perfect solos of the guitarists Wolf Hoffmann and Herman Frank also the other guys of the band knew to convince. Besides Hoffmann bassist Peter Baltes is the only one that is left of the 1976 original cast. They played a mixture of current songs like “Stalingrad” but also classics like “Balls To The Walls” of the so called album may not be missing. Supported by well-fitting videos on the huge LED wall in the background of the stage there was not only something offered for the ears but also for the eyes. The atmosphere was good in front of the stage although I have to admit that I already experienced something better. The set compilation was quite entertaining. After two hours it was enough for me. All in all not bad but nothing I want to hear more often.
