Wacken Open Air XXIV

Wacken (Germany)

(Pentax K-5 with Sigma AF 70-200mm 2.8 EX DC APO HSM II)

At 11 o'clock in the morning the Münster melodic death metal combo neaera entered the Black Metal Stage. To that time it was quite agreable in front of the stage related to temperature although the sun was already quite burning. Inside the tenst it seemed to be already quite warm because in front of the stage it was unusually filled quite well to that time. During the day the main area should turn into a real furnace. So you should take advantage of the current situation and live it up before you are not able anymore lateron.
With them the guys brought songs of their current 6th album "Ours Is The Storm" of which not only the name giving song made it as opener into the gig but as well three other songs. Overall a quite powerful mixture waking up the still somehow tired brain. Due to that not only on the stage it was getting down to the nitty-gritty but also in front of it there was a lot going on. All in all one hour the storm was raging across the stage in person of singer Benny Hilleke. He was dynamically supported by Tobias Buck and Stefan Keller on guitars wo were firing one riff salvo after the other as well as the rythm guitar part formed by Benjamin Donath on bass as well as Sebastian Heldt on drums. To wake up this was the perfect beginning of the day which could continue like this from my point of view.
