Wacken Open Air XXIX

Wacken (Germany)

(Pentax K-5 with Sigma AF 70-200mm 2.8 EX DC APO HSM II)

After so much fresh air (although on the basis of the much lower temperatures today it was way more agreeable compared to the days before) I went for the first time of the day into the Bullhead tent where the band Night Demon already lined up on stage.
The still quite new American heavy metal band has up to now released three albums. Accordingly, each of them took effect on compilation of the setlist. Singer and bassist Jarvis Leatherby sang and roared through the tracks which were to me a mixture of New Wave Of British Heavy Metal meets Motörhead to which also fitted the classic three men line-up with bass, guitar (played by Armand John Anthony) as well as drums (played by Dusty Squires). The powerful songs were quite catchy and invited to bob up and down as well as to head bang. Everything was kept simple started with the subtle banner in the background across the reduced action on right up to the also not excessive reactions in front of the stage. Finalized was the set by a not really convincing cover version of the Iron Maiden classic “Wasted Years”.
The gig overall was quite nice but could not fully convince me. It seemed that it was just like that also for some other people inside the not very crowded tent as opposite to other some bands the reactions were much more moderate. Hence, a nice transition to other bands that should still follow on that day.
