Wacken Open Air XXII

Wacken (Germany)

(Pentax k-x with Tamron SP AF 17-50mm 2.8 XR Di II LD Asp IF and Sigma AF 50-150mm 2.8 EX DC APO HSM II)

So, enough time spent in the tent, time to go outside. After Bülent Ceylan (why was there comedy on Wacken this year; it is not needed because after all it is a metal festival and not the German comedy prize-giving) cheeky German rock was presented by the South Tyrols Frei.Wild. Inspired by the style of Böhse Onkelz the band presented songs of the last two albums "Hart Am Wind" and "Gegengift".
Many people stood in front of the stage and the atmosphere was very good because immediately when they started playing several pits opened. It seemed like the organizers of the Wacken Open Air savvied that the permission messages on the video walls last year not to open circle pits was quite silly because this year they did not show anything comparable. Continually singer Philipp Burger interacted with the audience pushing them on to higher levels of mood. They followed him willingly and so everyone jumped, clapped and sang along loudly.
Overall this has finally been a very good open-air opener. Let’s take a look if the coming heroes of metal history are able to keep pace.
