It seemed a little bit like the gig of the trash metal band Sodom together with Roberto Blanco dwarfed their main show on the True Metal stage, but you have to say: wrongly. Tom Angelripper, Bernd "Bernemann" Kost and Markus "Makka" Freiwald not only had lots of songs of their current album "In War And Pieces" with them (the name giving song was also the opener) but additionally a lot of old stuff.
New to the line-up of Sodom was drummer Markus Freiwald replacing the former one Bobby Schottkowsky (in-between he was additionally introduced in detail but without his disturbing drum-set in front of him). He showed directly, that he is a worthy successor and launched one skyrocket after the other together with the other guys. With classics like "M-16" or "Agent Orange" they really fired up the crowd in front of the stage. It was also obvious that the guys on stage were giving everything. By and by Tom was getting rid of his outerwear until he was playing the last song with bared upper part of the body (this man is just giving everything on stage).
He was overall the most employed person that weekend. First he enthused the masses with his parallel project Onkel Tom at the Bullhead City tent, afterwards together with Sodom a short gig together with Roberto Blanco at the same location and finally on Friday he rocked the festival area together with Sodom.
All in all the show was with only 60 minutes a little bit tight and the guys tried to place as many songs as possible (that was luckily also why they had been talking only the most necessary things in-between the songs). They have proven that Sodom still belongs to the best what German trash metal is offering. After the show of Van Canto this was quite a huge contrast but really completely cool.
