After the humid, heavy power metal on the North Stage, I quickly headed back over to the South Stage, where the guys from Landmvrks were getting ready. The band from Marseille, France brought along an outstanding mix of varied metalcore bangers, mainly drawn from their last two albums: "Lost In The Waves" from 2021 and "The Darkest Places I’ve Ever Been", released this year.
What stood out immediately was the versatility of vocalist Florent Salfati, who effortlessly shifted from French rap into a strong clean singing voice, only to launch into brutal growls the very next moment. Alongside him, Landmvrks consists of guitarists Nicolas Exposito and Paul Cordebard, bassist Rudy Purkat, and drummer Kévin D’Agostino. By now the crowd had grown, and the noticeably larger number of women in the audience were singing loudly, waving their arms in the air, and simply having a great time.
Things got even heavier during “Sulfur,” when a massive Wall of Death crashed together, only for the mood to flip completely during the following track “Suffocate.” For this one, Salfati came on stage with an acoustic guitar, and the song began very emotional before building into something much heavier toward the end.
I hadn’t heard much from the band before, but they absolutely won me over. It was really the music that took center stage, as the overall show production was fairly minimal. The wide stylistic range was genuinely impressive, and I have to give a clear recommendation here: if they ever play near you, don’t hesitate - go see them.
