Metal Female Voices Fest IX
Oktoberhallen Wieze (Belgium)
Meanwhile it is Sunday evening and slowly the festival is coming to its end but not before a reale stunner was shown. At least I did not know the Swedish band Therion beforehand but they can look back onto a long and changeful history.
Their style can be defined as symphonic and death/black metal and then began a really bombastic 90 minutes lasting show at first with a dancer on stage. Afterwards it was getting quite crowded as not less than three singer (Katarina Lilja and Lori Lewis as well as Thomas Vikstöm) entered together with the band around Therion master mind Christofer Johnson the stage. That was really impressive what was shown by them. On the one hand optical with really great and remarkable wardrobes but mainly musically. The music significantly recognizable influenced by Wagner seemed like a huge opera during which the singers from time to time brought suspense by their short stories or requisites. Katarina Lilja partially parallel to her vocals played the piano. Roughly halfway of the concert the dancer from the beginning had another appearance as belly dancer.
Songs were played from nearly all periods of Therion's work. The closure was formed by the Abba cover "Summer Night City". As I already wrote in the beginning I absolutely did not know that band but after 90 minutes I stood there completely overrun by the power of the music and the show with open mouth in front of the stage. That was really the highlight of the day. In that case you really can say that the best is saved for last and so the waiting for the jubilee edition ten of the Metal Female Voices Fest starts. First band announcements were already made and it will for sure be a very impressive line-up.
